Whether a ring, pendant, earrings, or pottery piece, Nell’s work has impeccable craftsmanship, and exhibits a grace and beauty derived from the natural world. Trained as a biologist/zoologist, Nell spent six years in Bolivia, dividing her time between artwork and wildlife research.
“The colors, the people, and the living forms have strongly influenced my life and work,” she says. She has now settled down, working as a professional artist, with her family in her beloved Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, whose tranquility and beauty are evident in her work.
An artist of real integrity, whose work is an expression of a deep love of nature and a profound respect for its claims… an imaginative and meticulous craftsman – one who handles color, line, and shape with a poet’s sensitivity and a scientist’s discipline.
Movement, texture, flow, the undulation of vines, the flutter of wings, the essence of nature – plus the structure of a scientific mind – inspire Nell’s heirloom quality jewelry. Every piece is unique, individual – a small sculpture to wear. Nell works mainly in gold, but also incorporates platinum and silver to enhance the beauty of the high quality gemstones, diamonds and her wearable elegant designs.
Nell’s pottery is artistic as well as functional. She uses a mid-range Stoneware which is formed the potter’s wheel to produce classic pottery forms that are characterized by clean lines and rich natural glaze colors. Many pieces have natural leaf and turtle or dragonfly accents. The goal with all these pieces is to bring the beauty of handmade pottery into everyday use. All of these pieces are food, oven, microwave and dishwasher safe.
